Fred Sigman
Fred is an art history professor, visual artist and writer. He has been traveling the world since the age of ten, when he first sailed across the Atlantic with his mother and siblings. He now lives in Siem Reap, Cambodia, his base for university and online teaching, writing and media creation. This is a great place from which to explore the rest of Asia.
To change the world we need to explore the world. This can be accomplished through:
We offer Skills-Based online learning in the Arts and Humanities. WanderSight eLearning combines the history, culture, art and architecture of a place and people with the development of multimedia platforms.
Travelers are part explorers, part artists, who appreciate the well-worn path. Let us lead you to the people and places where we have traveled for many years. We would enjoy the company.
Share your own journeys and activities. Your participation encourages others to take an active role while also you also serve as mentor and learner. WanderSight is about collaboration as a form of advocacy.
We produce content and programs for the armchair traveler. For those who only dream of travel, or those planning their dream journey. We help prepare a way forward through video, podcasts, and directed reading.
These are some of the countries, monuments and people we meet as
I travel and teach around the world.

Samsāra Dances
Samsāra
is one of those Sanskrit words which often appear in the Buddhist
sutrās and Hindu epics that describe human existence. It is variously translated as, "flowing around," "the ever-turning wheel of life," "the world," or as "wandering." These expressions point to what is common to not only all humans, but to the nature of the universe itself: all things travel in cycles. What goes around, comes around. Or, as George Harrison once sang, "All things must pass." For Buddhists,
samsāra , is that wheel of birth and rebirth which is the basis of human suffering, at least, until we are finally reborn into that state of bliss called
nirvāna . That, for Buddhists, is the ultimate salvation.
The idea of 'dances' in the title of this short video, comes from the Hindu deity
Shiva Natāraj: the Lord of the Dance.
The idea is that through art and performance all things are called into existence. The core of a cosmic spirituality is linked with dance and movement. So, while we may go round-and-round in what seems to be an endless cycle of life, every moment along the way is to be celebrated and appreciated. This is the role of art: to give us reason to celebrate, to love, and to recognize the fullness of our lives.
Our
WanderSights videos
are produced as short expressions of an idea, place or culture. Our
eLearning Media
videos are longer presentations for deeper appreciation. This video was recorded at the Great Stupā of Baudhanath near Kathmandu, Nepal in 2018.
